Talking about adwords, this may seem the most complicated part of internet marketing, because many people still struggle about this part. Basically the main goal of using Google Adwords is that, when someone types a keyword relating to your product or services as a search on Google, your ads will be displayed. Then someone is taken to your site where he will hopefully buy your product or sign up.

What most people do is choose as many keywords as they can and later realized  they are loosing much money on PPC campaigns. Keyword relevancy is the main concern. In PPC, every click is valuable so targeting the right person is important.

What you need to do inorder to have greater success is to determine the relevancy of your keywords. Google is pretty particular now about adword relevancy, so my advise is, pick one. How to boost adwords relevancy? Select one keyword and one adgroup and use exact match. If you do this, your relevancy score on Google will increase, and that’s the goal. Don’t waste your money on 20 or 30 keywords when one can be more effective.

When you have selected your keyword, be sure to use exact match. Then make sure you put that one keyword in your URL, your headline, your description, etc. Make sure the keyword density is high, and you will see greater success.

One thing that one has to consider when choosing keyword phrases is not just the search volume but also the commercial intention that a particular keyword may have. Finding keywords with commercial intent is one aspect of internet marketing that a lot of people over look when choosing their keywords.

It is important to determine whether the keyword will likely result in sales or not before you bid on that keyword and later found out that you just wasted your money on poor PPC campaigns. There is no easy way to determine the commercial value of a certain keyword, but Microsoft Ad Center Labs has produced a valuable tool to help you accomplish this. All you have to do is enter your keyword in the search box and it will calculate for you the projected success of your keyword. This program specifically calculates keywords with commercial intent and can be of great value to you and your ad campaign.

So take the time to try out a few different keywords. Don't just focus on finding keywords with higher search volumes but also consider the commercial intention that a keyword phrase may have.

While others pay for some expensive tools for advertising to get traffic for their website, targeted advertising through SEO may still be the most effective and the cheapest way to bring traffic to your website. Have you noticed that on the social networking sites like Facebook, they have some very clever advertising? Each ad is almost always tailored to your specific interests. What these companies have done is taken the information you have plugged into your profile and used that to target you as a potential customer.

For example; if you have entered the name of your favorite band or your favorite music genre into your profile, you might see an ad for a new CD that’s being released. If there’s an advertisement about something you are interested in, it’s more likely to grab your attention. The key here is to use the information that you already have about your customers to your advantage.

Now, let’s apply this concept to search engine optimization. When a customer chooses their keywords and types them into the search query, then that tells you exactly what they are searching for. Now it’s up to you to provide them with the information they need and to secure their business. This is accomplished when you create your “title tag.” Let’s use auto insurance as an example; if you are a company that sells auto insurance, but the only word in your title tag is “Geico,” customers are going to have to work a lot harder to access the information they are looking for and are likely to choose a different company. However, if your title tag is “Geico Auto Insurance,” that makes things a lot easier for the customer. It also makes your job easier because you will be targeting your ideal customers.

Previously we discussed here about how you can maintain a good reputation online, how you counter bad comments about you. In relation to this, one way of countering bad comments is posting testimonials about you or about the product you sell online or the company as a whole.

Also, you can use testimonials in sales letters. And the more you have, the better off you’ll be! Actually, most of us would probably do a little research first. We would ask around and maybe get a few referrals. The more positive things you hear about something or about the person, the more likely you are to take them your business. That is the value of testimonials.

If you have enough evidence that your system or product works, then more people are likely to purchase from you. It’s up to you to prove you have the best offer. If you have included facts, numbers and testimonials, then customers will have more confidence in you and your products.

Want to impress your readers right away at the time they see your page? Make them curious about your product or service by capturing their attention right away!

When designing your website, there is a term called, "above the fold", an area in your webpage that is in view without having to scroll up or down and left or right. In the "above the fold" section, put something you really want your customers to see. A good thing to note is that the average computer monitor has an “above the fold” size of about 1000 pixels wide by 578 pixels high. The key is to use this space to grab your customer’s attention.

The term "above the fold" actually referred to a newspaper, which when they are delivered to customers are folded up, meaning that only the top half of the front page is visible. The item that is above the fold, which the editor believed will entice people to buy the paper.

So, if there is something you would like your customers to see, you know where to place it. Use the space to grab attention and if you're successful with it, most likely they are willing to stick around and check the rest of the page.

Here are main types of keyword selection tools that are commonly used for PPC Keyword Research:
     1. Spy Tools – There are two main types of these and all of them are paid and are often very expensive.

          a) Tools that provide competitor intelligence information (what your competitors are bidding on) that are updated   infrequently.  The disadvantage of these is that they do not provide real time data.  The biggest advantage is that they have large databases with up to 1 billion keywords!  They also often provide SEO keywords that your competitors are optimizing for.  Examples of these include keywordspy.com and spyfu.

          b) Tools that provide real time data that allow you to see assess how long people have been running ads on various keywords.  This should give you the ability to make an educated guess about whether people are making money with certain keywords.  These tools generally focus on keywords that are getting traffic and do have an extensive
database like the ones that are described above.  WARNING: Just because someone else is making money with a particular keyword and/or offer does not guarantee that you will.  There are a LOT of factors such as quality score, ad position, ad copy, landing page and url differences that can drastically affect the profitability of a campaign.  These keyword selection tools will often provide “training” that teaches you to clone other people’s campaigns.  Do not ever do this.  Do your own keyword research!  Trust me on this one.

2. Tools that return long tail and related keywords based on a seed keyword – Some of these are paid while some are free.  Free ones include Google Keyword tool or Yahoo Overture Keyword tool.  An example of a paid tool is wordtracker.com.  These are great as they can save you time so that you don’t have to manually think about all plural versions or past present and future tenses of verbs and other variations that are common with the keyword phrase in question.  These should return to you the majority of closely related keywords that actually are getting traffic so you don’t waste time building campaigns around keywords that no one is searching for.  Everyone should be using these regardless of what other paid services he/she may be using.

3. Tools that use one or more tools described in #2 to save time.  Some of these may provide SEO competition data, filtering options and a variety of other bells and whistles.  Most of these keyword selection tools are paid.  My favorite is Keyword Research Pro as you get advanced filtering options that are not available in excel.  Other examples of such tools are keyword elite, traffic travis etc…All of these keyword selection tools have different advanced features that may or may not help you.  This is not a product review so I will not be getting into the details of these here.

Wise decision is to start to use type #2. My suggestions is do brainstorming on your own and generate the seed keywords that get traffic and plug them into these tools and grabbing all the related ones that you can that are related to your offer. NEVER export keywords from ANY tool and blindly start bidding on them.

Use tool type #3 to save you time once you figure out what you are doing and use tool type #1 sparingly.  Consider these to be a luxury and use them only to get ideas of what might be working or ideas that may help you generate more seed keywords that can be plugged into tool types 2 and 3.

Now that you have an idea about these tools, don't feel pressured to buy the most expensive tool because it is recommended by someone. Be wise enough in using these tools.

Getting quality score for your landing page will lead to better rankings for your ads and a lower CPC. As search engines strive to provide users with a good experience and trust, there have been some drastic changes to the quality score algorithm. So if you are one those affected by that change, here's what you can do to increase quality score.

Actually there are two categories; short term and long term. These solutions can help get your campaigns running again, assuming that you have not been banned from Google. Remember not to deal with quick fixes that promise you a simple solution as most of these do not offer genuine long term business strategy.

Here is a list of some quick fixes that may help you if you have gotten Google slapped in the last couple of weeks:
  • Cloak your affiliate links - Google has slapped all affiliate sites so you must cloak your links if you want run review style affiliate pages on Ad Words
  • Don't promote scams and/or rebill offers with hidden terms and conditions - if you don't trust the site with your money, then don't promote it
  • Read Google's Terms and Conditions and Don't Violate Them! - I know some of these can be vague but some things are spelled out in there so make sure you are familiar with these
  • Don't promote in scammy/spammy niches such as (this is not an all-inclusive list): teeth whitening, colon cleanse, acai berry, and make money from home - Google has taken a dim view of these niches due to the all the BS affiliates that are out there. Even if you are legitimate, you may get lumped together with everyone else and you may actually get banned for no reason.
  • Don't use fake reviews or fake blogs - no explanation needed.
Here is a list of some long - term business strategies that can help you increase quality score and survive regardless of what Google decides in the future (who knows these days right?)
  • Write original, quality content on a site that you own (preferably word press)
  • Optimize your site for SEO and work on increasing page rank, creating back links and doing what real businesses do - Google will let you get away with more on Ad Words (squeeze pages even in some cases) if you have a higher PR. I have tested this and it seems to be true (although who can be 100% sure?)
  • Instead of spamming affiliate links everywhere use your natural and PPC traffic to build a list with the traffic you get
  • Focus on building relationships with your customers by providing useful content and capturing leads
If you are an affiliate using review pages etc..by following the quick fixes above you can still promote your site with ad words for the time being and increase quality score. By following the proven long term business strategies you will be able to thrive in any environment for the long term regardless of what Google does with its algorithms.

Writing Ad Copy is the most challenging part of any PPC campaign. Any online marketer are struggling to pass this stage. Plus the fact that ad costs are rising seemingly on a daily basis and conversions are getting harder to come by. Because of these, you need to make sure that you are attracting the right visitor to your landing page. So you need to work on your ad copy first.
Before you get started, keep in mind what it is that your customer wants. Be reader-centered, stop talking about your product. Make sure you have made a thorough research before you spend your hard-earned money on PPC. Focus on what it can do to your customers.
  • First thing is your headline. In writing ad copy, your headline is the most important in attracting your prospect's attention. If you are advertising on the search network, in most cases the most important thing is that the headline contains your keywords that you are bidding on in the search engines. Using the keywords in writing ad copy is also important to Google as they will see your ad as more relevant and give you a lower cost per click . Also keep in mind that your headline must be 25 characters or less. If your keyword is short enough, then be more creative in using words that will get attention. Also you can add question mark at the end of the keyword or say things like “get keyword here” or “keyword scam?” or “looking for keyword?” etc…Get creative here and test everything that you can think of.
  • Then following your headline is a description that will appeal to your customer's emotion as well as accurately represent the product.Your product offers a lot of features, but what do they DO for your customers? Do they save him time or money or give him peace of mind? If you are selling a product on how to make money online, emphasize that this product will give the lifestyle that your prospects have always wanted. If you are selling a dog training book, then do not tell them it will make them rich. You will get clicks but people will not buy from you since they are not in the mindset to purchase a product on making money. You get the idea? You should be truthful. Tell customers the benefits of your product that they have been looking for.
  • Description line 2 simply needs to be strong call to action. Using scarcity can also help here. Always remember when writing ad copy, to accurately represent your offer! We are not just trying to get clicks but qualified clicks! Putting the desired action that you want the user to complete on your landing page is also helpful here. For example: “Enter Email to Get this for Free!”. This is a call to action and also tells them what we want them to do once they end up on our landing page. Putting the price in the ad also can help to prequalify people and deter freebie seekers who might waste our money. For Example: ”This Can Be Yours for Only $35!” Notice how this is a call to action as well as specifies that a purchase is required on the landing page in order to get the benefits of your offer.

Are you one of those people who are desperately looking for any success with ppc search engine marketing. It is important if you understood first the following:
The 4 PPC Keys to Success:
  1. Time – There is a learning curve involved regardless of the training you have received
  2. Persistence – Let’s be honest. PPC is frustrating as there are a large number of factors involved in creating successful campaigns. However, there are many benefits that you can reap by being persistent and never, ever giving up.
  3. Experience – Time + Persistence = Experience. You will need to test many things to see what works for you in your market. Many of these things are only learned through trial and error. Once you get some experience, your success rate will increase drastically.
  4. Money – You will need to spend some money getting the experience that you need to succeed in your PPC Search Engine endeavors and to overcome the learning curve. There really is no way around this, however, you will need to be smart and not waste money either.
Who May be Interested in PPC Search Engine Marketing:
  1. Any online or offline Business with a website that wants more leads
  2. Non-Profits, Charities, or Churches
  3. People looking to promote affiliate products online (although this is getting harder by the day)
  4. Anybody else that wants targeted traffic for any reason
Getting targeted traffic has never been easier, faster, or more expensive if done incorrectly. Since you are buying traffic from the search engines, you can literally get instant traffic to your website for any keyword phrase that you specify as long as you: pay the minimum amount required for that search phrase and follow the rules that the search engine has in their terms of service and elsewhere.

The main PPC Search engines that you will be buying traffic from are: Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Each of these has their own requirements as far as approving your ads and landing pages and their own distinct group of users. Google, having roughly 65% of the search market, will give you the most traffic, however, please bear in mind that advertising with Google is a serious pain if you don’t know what you are doing so for this reason it might make sense to start advertising with either MSN or Yahoo to get your feet wet (if you are inexperienced) since they are more lax with their requirements. Whatever your goals are or your experience level is, I hope to provide something useful to everyone here on this site.
